Mac OS X Maintenance! – old article

Just a little routine maintenance can make a Macintosh that is acting old and slow run like it was new again!

The first thing to do though, is find out which version of the Mac OS X you are running? Go to the Apple, then select ‘About This Mac’ a box will open like this.

Then go to https://www.titanium-software.fr/en/onyx.html and download ONYX or MAINTENANCE (simplest) for your version of the OS.

In my case it was • DOWNLOAD MAINTENANCE 1.3.5 FOR MAC OS X 10.6 (SNOW LEOPARD)Yours may be 1.1.8 for Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)

Once you download it, and it opens.. To install Maintenance, drag the icon to your Applications folder.

Once you do that, just go find it in the applications folder, and double click it!  You might get a warning about it being a downloaded app, just click open, and agree to any license agreements etc.  It will probably want to verify the startup volume so I’d let it (it will probably ask for your account information).

I’d do the Maintance items: make sure to select Execute Maintenance Scripts (may take awhile to complete)

There are 3 Maintenance Scripts that the OS completes (if you leave it on (not sleeping) at around 3 am!) No one does that, so that is what this tool can do.

1 is daily, 1 is weekly, and 1 is monthly.  So you might want to run tool once a month just to keep things running smooth!
